Hello Fashionista's,
Dubai Fashion Forward was back for it's third season with 18 regional designers showcasing their latest collection on the runway. I had the great pleasure to attend the 3-day event to witness several collections and trends from numerous designers.
Day 1
I attended the following shows:
Starch,
The Emperor 1688 and
Jean Louis Sabaji.
Starch Foundation Designers
Starch Foundation presented two upcoming designers for this years Fashion Forward whom are Timi Hayek and Jo Baaklini.
Jo Baaklini presented a fruitful show full of hand-drawn lemons, watermelons and bananas. At first I was overtaken by this kind of style as it is really not my cup of tea, but overall I thought that the illustrations used were cute.

Timi Hayek on the other hand presented a ready-to-wear collection of flawy pleats, stripes and hand-drawn printed silks and jerseys in monochrome, ivory and navy blue colors. I loved her collection especially the use of flawy pleats. But there is only one thing I would add to this collection since it has been released for Summer 2014 is to add a bit of color to pop it out slightly. Other than that, her collection is definitely something I would wear! Simply, l Iove it!

The Emperor 1688
The Emperor 1688 held a show of tailored formal menswear. The inspiration of this collection reminded me very much like the character Chuck Bass from the popular series Gossip Girl. Preppy, elegant, and edgy is what I would call the theme of this collection. Coats and capes were definitely the star of the show. They were featured in several interesting colors, sizes and exceptionally tailored proportions. The luxury menswear label also showcased a few impressive pieces for womenswear.
Jean Louis Sabaji
Jean Louis Sabaji presented a collection that themed around nature - flowers, plants and insects. I must say my favorite look in this collection was the use of flowers in its different forms. I wasn't a big fan of the other looks that he presented as I felt they were unwearable much and could be used as costumes or theatrical purposes. However, given the fact that this was his first ever show I would definitely give him an applaud for creating 41 looks!
And that was the review for Day 1 of Fashion Forward Dubai!
Stay tuned for Day 2 review!
Love,
Sarah
